Get to know John Vernon
Musician - Composer/Producer/Performer
John Vernon`s musical career began at the age of 3, as he was introduced to the accordion. By the age of six he had learned to play the trombone and accordion. One year later, at the early age of seven, he was impressively performing on stage.
While in high school, he auditioned for Marshall Brown's Newport Youth Jazz Band, which consisted of only the most talented high school and college students, in the east coast. He was accepted into this historical band, where he worked with Marshall Brown for two years. During these two years, John performed at the Newport Jazz festivals, in the studio for recording sessions, as well as live at concerts. He also went on tour with such greats as Les Elgart, Sammy Kaye, Jimmy Dorsey, and Glenn Miller, to name a few.
By the age of 21, he formed his own 17 piece big band. John worked tirelessly for several years to promote his big band, to know avail,(since the timing was bad for big bands), he went back to work for other band leaders. He then moved to Las Vegas, where he went on to work playing for singers such as; Sonny & Cher, Steve & Eydie, Myron Cohen, Bob Hope, Tony Bennett, & the late Harry James big band, with Phil Harris & Frank Sinatra Jr.
John then moved back to New York where he started another big band (The Vernon - Rowland Horns Of Manhattan Big Band), with the great Gene Rowland. After several years of trying to promote the Vernon - Rowland Horns Of Manhattan Big Band, they decided to call it quits. John then moved to Arizona in 1989, where he has been doing arranging, composing, & has created a recording studio.
Presently, John is working on discovering new talent to promote in the South Eastern Arizona area. He hopes to have some files of the big band soon & is always looking for information on trombone players and Big Bands. If you would like to list your Band, Audio Demo`s, Music Composition, or whatever work you would like to introduce to the world, please feel free to email him your information.
